The Rebbe in #1165, D'var Malchus

At this portion of the talk, given at a Yechidus Klalis, the Rebbe focused on yet another Yetzias Mitzrayim-like miracle happening now:

…Another example of the events occurring lately which display wonders and miracles − is the mass exodus of Jews from the Soviet Union, which resembles the Exodus from Egypt:

… נָאך אַן עִנָין אִין דּי גֶעשֶׁעענִישְׁן בִּזְמַן הָאַחַרוֹן אִין וֶועלְכְן מְ’זֶעט נִסִים וְנִפְלָאוֹת – אִיז דִי יְצִיאָה פוּן אַ רִיבּוּי אִידְן מְמְדִינָה הַהִיא, וֶועלְכֶע אִיז בְּדוּגְמַת יְצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם:

After many years of an entirely different policy, in which Jews were not allowed to leave,

לְאַחַרֵי אַ רִיבּוּי שָׁנִים פוּן אַ הַנְהָגָה בְּאוֹפֶן אַחֵר לְגַמְרֵי, אִין וֶועלְכֶע אִידְן הָאבְּן פוּן דָארְטְן נִיט גֶעקֶענְט ארוֹיסְגֵיין –

this year and in the previous year, the country opened its gates to let out the Jews so that they can go to the Holy Land.

אִיז דַוְקָא בְּשָׁנָה זוּ וּבְּשָׁנָה שֶלְפָנֶיהָ הָאט דִי מְדִינָה אוֹיפגֶעעֶפְנְט אִירֶע טִירְן צוּ אַרוֹיסלָאזְן אִידְן זֵיי זָאלְן גֵיין אִין אֶרֶץ הַקוֹדֶש

[Most of the immigration of Russian Jewry was to Israel, but a significant minority preferred to settle in other western countries. There were some who campaigned that Jewish philanthropic institutions financially assist Soviet Jews emigrating to Israel only,  thus encourage Aliya. The Rebbe was strongly outspoken against this, even though he too wished to see them move to Israel. The long-time Chabad policy is that Jews should be helped materially with no preconditions, not even spiritual advancement:

And even if, for whatever reason, some of them are temporarily “delayed” in other countries (such as the United States or Australia and the like) by emigrating there,

[אוּן אַפִילוּ אוֹיבּ, מֵאֵיזֶה סִיבָּה שֶׁתִּהְיֶ’, הָאבְּן אַ טֵייל פוּן זֵיי זִיךְ מִתְעַכֵּב גֶעוֶוען אִין אַנדֶערֶע מְדִינוֹת לְפִי שָׁעָה (אִין אַרְצוֹת הַבְּרִית אָדֶער אוֹסְטְרַאלְיָא וְכַיוֹצֵא בָּזֶה)

they will soon relocate (happily and with their full consent) to the Holy Land, along with their families.]

וֶועלְן זֵיי בְּקָרוֹב זִיך אִיבֶּערְטְרָאגְן (בְּרָצוֹן שָלֵם וּמִתּוֹךְ שִׂמְחָה וְטוּב לֵבָב) אִין אֶרֶץ הַקוֹדֶשׁ, צוּזַאמֶען מִיט זֵיֶיערֶע מְשְׁפָּחוֹת.]

This “exodus” from Russia is reminiscent of the exodus from Egypt in many ways:

Firstly, the Russian government itself assists them to emigrate, as was the case at the exodus from Egypt, when Egyptians themselves encouraged the Jews to leave the exile.

אוּן בִּיז אַז דִי מְדִינָה אַלֵיְין אִיז זֵיי מְסַיֵּעַ צוּ אַרוֹיסְגֵיין, בְּדוּגְמָא וִוי סְ’אִיז גֶעוֶוען בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם,

Secondly, the goal of that exodus was to go to the Holy Land (as Hashem promised through Moshe, “And I shall bring you to the land…”) and the same is true with this exodus from Russia.

וָואס תַּכְלִיתָהּ אִיז גֶעוֶוען צוּ גֵיְין אִין אֶרֶץ הַקֹּדֶשׁ (וְהֵבֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם אֶל הָאָרֶץ גֹו’)

This assistance to our Jewish brethren who just left (and are presently leaving), in this “exodus,” from the Russian “Mitzrayim” — in Hebrew this word also means confines and limitations —  includes a portion of the treasures from “Egypt” — the Iraqi reparations — as mentioned above, as well as funds from other nations.

כּוֹלֵל אוֹיךְ — סִיּוּעַ פוּן דִי דְּבָרִים גְּנוּזִים פוּן “מִצְרַיִם” (כַּנַ”ל), אַז מְ’נוּצְט דָּאס אוֹיךְ, בִּיז אַז אַ טֵייל דֶערְפוּן — אוּן אוֹיךְ פוּן אַנְדֶּערֶע גֶּעלְטֶער פוּן אַנְדֶּערֶע מְדִינוֹת — קוּמְט אָן צוּ אִידְן, אַחֵינוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּ”יצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם”, פוּן “מִצְרַיִם” (מִלָּשׁוֹן מֵיצָרִים וּגְבוּלִים) פוּן מְדִינָה הַהִיא,

This too is similar to the first Exodus from Egypt, when the Jews “despoiled Egypt,”  to the point “they were given things they didn’t even ask for,”  including treasured items!

בְּדוּגְמָא וִוי סְ’אִיז גֶעוֶען בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם בַּפַּעַם הָרִאשׁוֹנָה, אַז “וִינַצְּלוּ אֶת מִצְרַיִם”, בִּיז אַז “אַף מַה שֶׁלֹּא הָיוּ שׁוֹאֲלִים הָיוּ נוֹתְנִים לָהֶם”, אוּן אוֹיךְ דִי דְּבָרִים גְּנוּזִים.

The emphasis on acknowledging the miracles of the Geulah is of utmost importance now, as we approach the end of galus. The Rebbe uses yet another analogy from the Exodus from Egypt: the 40 years the Jews spent in the desert, between the time they left Egypt and finally arriving at their destination — the Holy Land of Israel.

While this whole lengthy trip was a process heading to the goal, Israel, still, only at its very end, at the verge of entering the promised land, did it become of paramount importance to acknowledge the miraculous events taking place:

…May Hashem help every Jew to obtain the  “eyes to see” — to have the awareness to notice the miracles;

…וִיהִי רָצוֹן אַז דֶּער אוֹיבֶּערְשׁטֶער זָאל הֶעלְפְן יֶעדֶער אִיד עֶר זָאל הָאבְּן דִי “עֵינַיִם לִרְאוֹת

and (as a result) the “ears to hear” — “to hear” in Hebrew also means to understand;

וּ(בְּמֵילָא) אָזְנַיִם לִשְׁמֹעַ”,

and “a heart to know” to acknowledge all these great open miracles taking place every day before our very eyes and the message they carry: the imminent arrival of Moshiach.

אוּן “לֵב לָדַעַת” — צוּ זֶען “הַמַּסּוֹת הַגְּדֹלֹת אֲשֶׁר רָאוּ עֵינֶיךָ הָאֹתֹת וְהַמֹּפְתִים הַגְּדֹלִים הָהֵם” — דִי נִסִּים גְּלוּיִים וָואס קוּמֶען פָאר בְּכָל יוֹם,

Particularly since we stand after the “forty years” of being in the “desert of the nations” —  a term which is a reference to exile, when we are in  territory “uninhabited” by G-dliness that remains under the dominion of the “gentile nations.”

וּבִּפְרַט אַז מְ’הַאלְט שׁוֹיְן נָאךְ דִי “אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה” זַיין בְּמִדְבַּר הָעַמִּים (פוּן גָּלוּת),
