A fresh, new neshama comes down from the celestial worlds. On its way, it meets a fellow neshama that finished its job on earth, making its way up to the next world. One of the principles of Jewish law is: “we ascend in matters of holiness and not descend.” This principle conveys a dual message: First we must always look for ways to enhance our spiritual lives and commitment to Torah and Mitzvos, and, at the very least we should not decline in matters of holiness.
In many ways, the challenge today is greater than any time previously. Our task now is to see these threats to our spiritual existence as false challenges and for us to recognize that they are not reality. These temptations do not represent the true nature of our world; deep down the world has become saturated with the G-dly energy generated by millennia of Mitzvah observance, notwithstanding all of the hardships it entailed.
Although the Jews still remained subjects of the Persian Empire, the Purim miracle serves as the catalyst in exile for the unleashing of the ultimate Redemption when we will see the fulfillment of King Solomon’s declaration, “A woman of valor is the crown of her husband” through the feminine quality which will unleash the full revelation of the infinite Messianic G-dly light.
One of the major achievements of the Messianic Age is that, as we say in our prayers, we will observe the Mitzvos “in accordance with Your will.” What does that mean? Surely we perform many of the Mitzvos properly even today.
