When the Rebbe instructs us to publish a book or pamphlet, he intends that we publish it as widely as possible, so that the subject matter may be understood by the greatest number of people. This includes issues previously hidden and known only to a select few in an entire generation

“When the Rebbe Rashab (Rabbi Sholom Dovber Schneersohn, the fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe) was a little boy of about four or five years of age, he entered the room of his grandfather, the Tzemach Tzedek (Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, the third Lubavitcher Rebbe), and with tears in his eyes he asked his grandfather why Hashem revealed Himself to Avraham but not to us. His grandfather answered him, ‘When a Jew who is a tzaddik decides at the age of 99 to circumcise himself, he deserves that Hashem should reveal Himself to him.’”

The fifth Rebbe, the Rebbe Rashab, had such a unique style of presentation that the most respected elder Chassidim of his time entitled him “the Rambam of Chassidus.” The Rebbe Rashab drew from many thousands of Chabad discourses by his predecessors and, based on them, explained the most profound concepts in clear terms, comprehensively and in an orderly progression of ideas.

At first glance it seems that the month of Cheshvan is a month that symbolizes exile. There are no official Jewish holidays and the darkness of winter begins to become apparent. Its Halachic name is “Mar-Cheshvan,” which means the bitter month of Cheshvan. Yet, in Chazal and Chassidus, we are taught that, on the contrary, the month of Cheshvan is kept bare of all holidays, so that it can be filled with the great light and holiday of Geula!
Mr. Mordechai Lazar learned for a brief period in Yeshivas Tomchei T’mimim in Lubavitch. This Shavuos marked 100 years since the beginning of the recitation of the maamarim known as “Hemshech Ayin-Beis.” We spoke to the rosh yeshiva of Daas in Rechovos, Rabbi Yitzchok Arad, who gives classes in these maamarim, about their significance in the life of a Chassid nowadays, 100 years since they were said.
