THE TRAGEDY DIDN’T BREAK US – ON THE CONTRARY!
A few weeks ago, a very special and most unusual event took place in the remote Indian village of Hampi. Numerous shluchim and tourists attended a most impressive and moving ceremony to dedicate an elegant new mikveh, recently completed after two and a half years of tireless work and determination. Rabbi Mordechai (Motti) Grumach and his wife, Libby, the Rebbe MH”M’s shluchim in Hampi, spared no effort. They endured many difficulties and pitfalls until they were privileged to complete this blessed and extraordinary building project.

SHEVA BRACHOS EXPENSES
Sheva brachos (lit., seven benedictions) are recited under the chuppa (marriage canopy) for the new couple, bestowing upon them blessings for a happy and fruitful life, as well as prayers for the Final Redemption. It is a time-honored custom that the week following the wedding is one of joyous celebration, when feasts honoring the chassan (groom) and kalla (bride) conclude with a repetition of the sheva brachos that were recited under the chuppa.

THE REBBETZIN’S CANDIES
R’ Amram Malka is a well-known figure among Anash of Rishon L’Tziyon. He was born in Morocco to a large family numbering thirteen children. During the 1950’s, at the height of the second wave of aliya, he came with his family to Eretz Yisroel. In 5718, he joined the Talmud Torah that was a branch of the Tomchei T’mimim yeshiva in the Pardes in Lud. Afterward, he continued his studies in the yeshiva in Kfar Chabad, and before the New Year 5726 he traveled to the Rebbe for his K’vutza year.

Hundreds of packages of Jewish ritual items, matzos and clothing, were smuggled to Russian Jews during the darkest times under the Soviet regime thanks to the cleverness of the Chassid, R’ Yisroel (Mulle) Pruss a”h, with the discreet collaboration of the Mossad and the Israeli Foreign Ministry. * The shocking sequel to the story occurred when the Soviet Union returned a captured spy to Eretz Yisroel who was mercilessly beaten and psychologically scarred, and the Foreign Ministry asked for the Rebbe’s help.
