Late Shabbos afternoon on 3 Tammuz, the Chabad community in B’nei Brak gathered in the old, central Chabad shul on Rashi Street, to farbreng. The shul was packed and the Chassidim listened closely to the rav, Rabbi Yitzchok Belinov, who spoke about the significance of the day and hiskashrus to the Rebbe through learning his teachings and fulfilling his instructions.
“These are the words which Moshe spoke to all Israel, on the other side of the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the Arava, opposite the Red Sea, between Paran and Tophel, and Lavan and Chatzeiros and Di Zahav.”
The lively and cheerful music stopped with an abrupt, sharp bang on the drum. Dancers took the moment to chat amiably. Dina stood in the now broken circle, watching her former classmate Chava laugh heartily. With a tug at her heart she recalled miserably that that ’s how it had always been. Chava. Popular Chava. For sixty years, R’ Uri Cohen worked assiduously to save Jews in various countries: Holland, Iran, Ukraine, Germany, while simultaneously founding schools in Holland. All this was done with the direct instructions of the Rebbe. He sometimes met privately with the Rebbe for hours and then would leave 770 immediately and disappear. He was a mystery man in his lifetime and after his passing too. * The man who worked for the Rebbe by retrieving lost Jews.
Chana Kadvil of Rechovot has a particularly hard nisayon to deal with. She has been confined to a wheelchair for years. We thought we would hear about her suffering, but to her, it’s not relevant or significant. She is full of chayus when she tells of the mivtzaim that happen through her. She accomplishes what many healthy, mobile Chassidim don’t
R’ Leib Sarah’s was a tremendous tzaddik. He did much on behalf of the Jewish people, both spiritually and materially. Most of his wondrous deeds were done secretly.
