UNIVERSAL CELEBRATION

What was so unique about this event that gripped everybody and led to such an extraordinary emotional outpouring across the board? This question bears consideration, since Rubashkin is not the first Jew to sit in jail, and he is not the first Jew to be released from jail. Also, he was not jailed for the sin of promoting Judaism as in the days of Soviet Russia, and yet, hundreds of thousands of Jews throughout the world went wild with excitement upon hearing of his release. Tens of thousands of Jews danced in the streets of Jewish neighborhoods across America, and the joy in 770 was through the roof, recalling days gone by

A WARM WINTER TEIVES WITH THE REBBE

The weather in the month of Teives 5734 was unusually cold, but inside 770 there was a fiery flame of Chassidus and hiskashrus. * What happened when the author of the diary went outside in the snowy street, and how did the Rebbe react to the suggestion of walking in the gutter because the snow on the sidewalk had turned to dangerous ice? Why did the Rebbe ask for a translator to be present at the yechidus with the Brazilian businessman, and why did the Rebbe advise him to stay in business? Who did the Rebbe tell to buy gifts for his wife and children, and how did the Rebbe come to contribute to the costs of the plane ticket? * Fascinating reports and memories from the month of Teives 5734 with the Rebbe, published for the very first time from the diary of the late R’ Saadia Maatuf.

JACOB NEVER DIED

Our Sages teach that “everything follows the end.” The literal translation is that “everything follows the seal.” A seal is put on something that needs to be protected and preserved. This parsha, then, is what preserves the message and inspiration of all the preceding sections of B’Reishis.

VETERAN MIVTZAIM PARTNERS

For more than thirty years, they travel together, in the snow and cold, rain and heat, to do Mivtza Mezuza in yet another Jewish home in Brooklyn. * Every Wednesday, after finishing the daily shiur of Rambam they both attend, they get into a car, one as the driver and one as the direction finder, in their attempt to do what the Rebbe wants of them. * Avrohom Rainitz joined R’ Mordechai Chein and R’ Hirshel Morosov on Mivtza Mezuza and reports to us.

PREPARATIONS

We recently learned in the HaYom Yom about how a Chassid prepares for Shabbos. The Frierdike Rebbe, at the farbrengen of 20 Kislev 5693, shared a few more details that relate to its background.

Nittel Nacht

A friendly reminder to our dear readers: Tonight is “Nittel Nacht,” and the Chabad custom is not to learn Torah, so as not to “add Chayus” to impurity.

Baruch Matir Asurim! - by Rabbi Akiva Wagner

Mazel Tov to Rabbi and Mrs. Sholom Mordechai Halevi Rubashkin and to the entire Rubashkin family on the beautiful news of his release from prison! I usually begin with a story, and Boruch Hashem, I have the perfect story for this week. A story that’s been over 8 years in the making. A story that we’ve been watching and following with faith and anticipation, with hope and prayers, with Emunah and bitachon seasoned with some growing impatience, day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year. A story that finally, with tremendous gratitude to Hashem Yisborach, we were able to get to the happy ending of (although not the final conclusion yet, we still await even better news!)

Didan Netzach 5778!

Photos courtesy http://crownheights.info/President Donald J. Trump commuted the prison sentence of Sholom Rubashkin and signed his relase from pirson, an action encouraged by bipartisan leaders from across the political spectrum, from Nancy Pelosi to Orrin Hatch.

As Shalom Morderchai said, one minute he was sitting in his cell and the next minute, hte door opens and he’s told to get out! He’s free to go home to his home and family

Since news of the presidents commutation of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin’s prison term there was non-stop dancing in 770, which reached a fever pitch when he finally arrived to join in the Simcha together with the massive crowd, close to midnight.

The Maariv davening was sung to Simchas Torah nigunim and the chassidim danced together with Shalom Morderchai unitl the wee hours of the morning.

Jewish communities wooldwide, of all “stripes”, celebrated the wondrous miracle of his release on this 8th day of Chanuka

DIDAN NATZACH – THE REBBE LIVES

From the expressions that the Rebbe employed when discussing the entire episode of the s’farim, we learn that the litigation was a reflection of a far deeper heavenly prosecution: whether the Nasi of Lubavitch is alive or there was a passing and a funeral ch”v, and therefore there is an inheritance to be divided… * The court decision reflected the heavenly victory, issuing a clear ruling that Lubavitch lives on with a Nasi who is chai v’kayam. In plain words, it was the victory of “Yechi
